The United Nations Office at Geneva is the most important UN Centre after New York headquarters and the most active international conference centre throughout the world.

It hosts numerous UN bodies in the field of the promotion of the respect of human rights, humanitarian assistance, disarmament, economy and development, science and technology.

The Palais des Nations was built between 1929 and 1936 and extended in 1973 with the adjunction of a new wing. Twice as large as the Château de Versailles, it is located on the picturesque Ariana estate and boasts a first- class view on Mont- Blanc and Lake Geneva.

The Palais' architecture is very typical of its time. Its inside decoration includes a number of remarkable works of art that reflect the cultural diversity of many countries.

Many century- old trees stand in the park, as well as striking sculptures, such as the orb sphere.

Visitors can take a commented tour daily.
