Being inhabited as far as 3000 B.C, Geneva has always been of interest to many civilizations as different as the Celts, Romans, Germanic Burgundian and French. All have one time, or another lived in this beautiful city. Geneva has never lost any of its cosmopolite feeling, hosting many world organizations such as the UNO and the International Red Cross. It gives you a glimpse of the city's role in today's world.

History of the hostel
The Geneva youth hostel association was created in 1932 to respond to the high demand of young traveler's. It all started in a little apartment on "rue du Soleil Levant"; then, it was moved to a building of the "Union Chrétiennes". The demand kept on growing, so it was once again moved to a school building. With a great concern for guests, the association had to find new and modern installations for the ever moving backpackers. A more adapted building had to be created. With great effort the association had talks with city's management a new building was found. Since 1987 the Geneva youth hostel is one on the city's contemporary art hallmarks. It uses the same building of an old ophthalmic hospital from 1874 to 1978; being itself a donation of the Rothschild foundation. A new building was added to the old hospital to be able to accommodate up to 300 people. Its ample lounge and restaurant will give you a great feeling of space and luminosity.
